I bet that if you are discussing best cake mixers with somebody who knew what they were talking about and you asked them which they thought were the two very best stand cake mixers, the one name that they would definitely mention is the Kenwood.
Kenwood has been around since most of us can remember. In fact, the very first Kenwood Chef was launched in the 1950s and has been one of those kitchen appliances which domestic cooks have always found ‘aspirational’.
The design is so classic, that every stand mixer which has been marketed since those days, still looks very much like the original Kenwood Chef. The basic design has never been bettered.
The ‘build’ of any Kenwood has always been very solid and there is little doubt that quite a few of the original Kenwoods are still being used.
The original Kenwood created nothing less than the kitchen revolution because it was, and still is, one of the genuine labour-saving devices in any household. It’s difficult to imagine that right up until 65 years ago, unless you were a professional baker, all kneading and mixing was done by hand.
Nowadays of course, there are many makes of stand mixers, but Kenwood continues to be the one most bakers would like to see on their Christmas list!
Although this ‘daddy’ of all mixers retains its original basic design, needless to say it has developed over the years. It now forms the basis of an entire range of ‘bolt-ons’ which means that a single Kenwood stand mixer drives a whole array of additional kitchen Appliances. These range from a meat grinder and slicer/grater to a pasta maker and a mill attachment.
No doubt Mr Ken Wood, the designer of the original Kenwood Chef would be very pleased to see his revolutionary invention still in use and still such an indispensable part of the modern cook’s equipment.
